Hear the person across the table, order the ribeye, and still be dancing at midnight. That is a harder room to build than it sounds, and it is the one we are building.

Five nights a week in Berwyn, Pennsylvania — Chester County, the middle of the Main Line.

Two rooms. Two different nights.

Downstairs, the lounge. Most nights, no cover. Walk in off Lancaster Avenue, eat properly, and then don't go anywhere. Karaoke three nights, comedy on a Thursday, a DJ on the weekend. This is the room where a Tuesday turns into something.

Upstairs, The Loft. A stage, house sound & an LED dance floor — two hundred to two hundred and fifty for a show. This is where the bands play and where the ticketed nights happen. More on The Loft.

You can have a quiet dinner downstairs while a band plays upstairs. That is deliberate. Not every night out is the same night out.

• Wednesday Channel 660 8pm Game show night. A different format every week, from eight. Starts Wed, Oct 7
• Thursday Open Mic Comedy 7:30pm–9pm Sign up at the bar. Comics first, then the mic opens up.
• Thursday Karaoke 9pm–11:30pm Straight after comedy. Runs late.
• Friday Karaoke Night 8pm–11:30pm Weekly karaoke on the first floor.
• Saturday DJ Night 8pm Every other Saturday, from eight. Midnight and later when the room wants it.

What we book

Rock, soul, funk, blues & Americana. Party bands and tribute acts. Originals, acoustic and solo sets. DJs on the weekend, comedy on Thursdays, karaoke three nights a week.

Not a genre policy so much as a standard — if the room will be glad it came, we want to hear from you.

We are in the audience too

Thirty-plus bands. A hundred and fifty-plus nights out. Dozens of rooms across the Main Line and into Philadelphia, in the last year and a half — bought tickets, paid the cover, stood at the back.

That is the whole reason this room is being built the way it is. We know what it is like to drive forty minutes to a venue where you cannot hear the person next to you, cannot get food after eight, and cannot park inside a half mile. We have had that night more than once.

We are not building that.

If you are in a band

Bring us your music. We book local and regional acts most weeks.

- The room — The Loft, second floor. Two hundred to two hundred and fifty for live music.

- Sound — house system, installed. You run your own setup through it. There is no house engineer, and we would rather you knew that now than at seven o'clock on the night.

- Load-in — second floor, up the stairs, and we help. Tell us what you are bringing and we will have hands on it.

- What we pay — a guarantee plus a door split. We tell you both numbers before you commit, not after.

Getting here without driving

Berwyn station is directly across the street — SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale line. You can take the train to a show and take the train home. On this stretch of Lancaster Avenue, almost nobody else can say that.

And if you are getting a car instead: show us a rideshare booking and we take money off the check, and there is free phone charging at the lounge bar, because a dead battery is how people end up driving. How we run the room.

Driving: private lot behind the building off Main Avenue, plus street parking and public lots a short walk away. Fifteen minutes from King of Prussia. Minutes from Devon, Wayne, Paoli & Malvern. About half an hour out of Philadelphia.

Questions

Is there a cover charge?

Most nights, no. Karaoke, comedy open mic and the weekend DJ are free to walk into. Ticketed shows in The Loft are the exception, and every one of them is marked on the calendar with a ticket link.

What time do bands start?

It varies by night, and the calendar above carries the real times for every dated show. As a rule the kitchen runs five to nine and the music runs later — so come early if you want to eat properly first.

Can I bring my kids to a show?

Until ten at night, yes — under-21s are welcome with a parent or guardian. After ten it is twenty-one and over and we check ID at the door.

Is The Loft accessible?

Not step-free — it is on the second floor and there is no elevator, though we have a stair-climbing chair and staff trained to use it, arranged in advance. The first floor is fully accessible, including the lounge and restrooms, and there is music down there most nights. If that matters for your night, tell us and we will make sure the room you want is the room you can get to.

How late is the kitchen?

Five to nine, Tuesday through Saturday. The bar menu runs to ten Tuesday through Thursday and to midnight Friday & Saturday — burgers, salads, bar bites & flatbreads. The whole card.

Do you do private events with live music?

Yes, and it is a large part of what The Loft is for — private events, weddings & after-parties, holiday parties.
